10/9/16 - Heading South

It’s that time of year again.  We have a summer’s worth of cat hair on board and now we’re ready to leave.  We’re sure going to miss Kurd!  Thanks Bill and Laurie for the cat loan; not that any of us humans decide where a cat will go and what the cat will do.
Kurd's favorite place to sleep in actually on a head.

We said our goodbyes and headed out Thursday morning, October 6th, Deb giving us a last farewell toot as she drove past on her way to work.  A bit chilly to start the day but the sun came out and we had a pleasant ride to Sylvan Beach.
Some of our deck loot from the garden became stuffed peppers and apple pie by dinner time.
Tomatoes, peppers and zucchini from the garden.

Apples from Appledale in Mexico, NY.
Liz, Karen and Mike at Sylvan Beach.

Thanks Mike, Liz, Dave & Bonnie for coming out to share.

Friday and Saturday we motored along, 23 locks (we were the only boat in each lock) in all, for our NY canal journey.
A picture perfect day on the Erie Canal.
The largest lift is at Little Falls where we descend 42 feet.
Approaching the town of Little Falls.

Approaching the lock at Little Falls.

Lock 17 - Little Falls, NY

Here we are holding onto the wall, the water is up....

and now the water is down 42 feet.

This is the only lock that has a gate that lifts up.  All other locks have doors that swing open.

Slowly the gate goes up and we continue on to Lock 16.

We were happy that the rain held off in the Albany area as we docked in Waterford Sunday morning.
We’ll clean, organize, and prepare for stepping the mast in Kingston, NY on the Hudson and then be on our way.  Our plans are to leave from Beaufort, NC to head to the Virgin Islands for the winter.
I’ll try to put together pictures and words as we travel along.  Please remember to send news of what’s going on in your lives.  We love to hear news from home and stay connected with family and friends.

Sea Glass Jewelry - End of Summer Inventory

Right now Persephone is out of the water at Callahan's Marina on Oneida Lake.  We've spent the last week scraping and sanding off may layers of old bottom paint.  (My minion picture - thanks Liz.)
Today we're "on vacation" at Mom and Dad's so I finally have some time for online projects.

By request from those early Christmas shoppers and for anyone else interested I'm posting my sea glass inventory.  If you'd like to purchase anything just let me know with the price of the item, the letter of the picture that corresponds, and a description.  I tried to take pictures by price.  If you would like more information or more pictures just let me know.  (kpack8888@yahoo.com)  I have a paypal account for payment.  Shipping will be approximately $4 for first class mailing.  $10 discount if your merchandise total is over $60.

All earring hardware is sterling silver and can be changed (fish hook, post...).  Some pendants are shown with a sterling silver chain or a suede or silky cord.  I can add a chain ($10) or cord ($3) to any pendant.  Wire used for wrapping is sterling silver, copper or colored enamel.
A gift card with a picture and story are included with each item.

So....here goes....

5/17/16

Wild pony on Carrot Island off Beaufort, NC where we were anchored.

Persephone, 2 Outrageous, and Scheherazade tied to the dock at Great Bridge, VA.

Here we are tied to the ferry basin at Portsmouth, VA.

Scheherazade just behind us as we sail from Norfolk to NY.  This was taken as we crossed the channel for ships coming in and out of the Delaware Bay.  (Sorry - forgot to level before posting.)

A visitor who flitted about the boat for a while on our ocean passage to NY.

New York City taken from Scheherazade Friday morning around 2 am.  Thanks for the picture Deb.

Scheherazade behind and the George Washington bridge in the background.

My last view of Scheherazade before the fog.

We follow a barge into the fog, under the Tappan Zee Bridge.  You can see the cranes working on the bridge.

Here's another photo from Deb on Scheherazade as Persephone moves into the fog.

The last of the fog at Bear Mountain Bridge.

A pleasant day for these locals to sail the Hudson River.

We're at Great Bridge on the ICW in Virginia at the public library.  Finally, a chance to put some movies online that we took in the Bahamas.  Here are some links for youtube movies I just posted.
